Research Associate (Hendrich Lab)

Posted by , on 24 April 2023

Job type: Postdoc

Location: Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, University of Cambridge, UK

Closing Date: 14 May 2023

A postdoctoral Research Associate position is currently available for an individual to work in the laboratory of Dr. Brian Hendrich within the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/people/pi/hendrich).

The Hendrich Lab studies how chromatin remodelling proteins are used by cells to alter gene expression patterns during cell fate decisions. We focus on how chromatin remodellers and extracellular signalling pathways coordinate to alter enhancer chromatin as mouse and human pluripotent stem cells undergo lineage commitment. The successful candidate will undertake a project focused on determining how a chromatin remodelling complex controls expression of short interspersed nuclear elements (SINEs) in human pluripotent cells and orchestrates their use as enhancers during neural crest development. A good understanding of enhancer and chromatin biology is essential, and the ability to analyse next generation sequencing datasets using R-based programming would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will have a PhD, experience in mammalian stem cell culture and a strong grasp of molecular and biochemical lab techniques. The candidate will have a keen interest in the control of cell fate decisions and a good understanding of chromatin-based control of gene expression at both the 2D (DNA and chromatin) and 3D (nuclear organisation) levels. These will be supported by a proven track record in scientific publications. Applicants must display an ability to undertake project management, work within a multi-disciplinary team environment, have good presentation and communication skills and the ability to contribute to an environment supporting researchers at all stages of their careers including supervising and training junior colleagues.

The Wellcome – MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI) is a world-leading centre for stem cell research with the mission to transform human health through a deep understanding of stem cell biology. https://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk/
