Cells are located in a continuously evolving and dynamic microenvironment. Cell are here stimulated by a complex range of cell-cell interactions, the extracellular matrix, chemicals and mechanical stimuli. This niche dictates cellular function. Cellular responses and interactions to their surroundings are fundamental and integral part of most cellular processes, including during development and regenerative processes. However, the cellular niche has so far been challenging to study and a detailed understanding into how the cellular niche form and function is far from complete.
We will use a range of cell biology approaches, including novel imaging techniques, gene editing, omics, and bioengineering techniques to overcome the fundamental limitations of static 2D mammalian cell model systems.
