Postdoc position in epigenetic and metabolic regulation of early mouse development at DanStem, University of Copenhagen

Posted by , on 6 March 2020

Closing Date: 15 March 2021

The Żylicz group at DanStem is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious post-doctoral candidate with a strong background in either stem cell and developmental biology and/or metabolomic research.

The Danish Stem Cell Center (DanStem) at Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen is looking for a Postdoctoral candidate to join the Żylicz group starting July 2020 or upon agreement with the chosen candidate.

A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Jan Żylicz at DanStem. The team studies fundamental mechanisms of early mouse development and stem cell biology. The Żylicz group wants to understand how metabolic and epigenetic mechanisms cooperate to regulate transcription during early development. In particular the team is interested in how metabolism regulates histone modifiers, and how these in turn affect lineage choice and embryo growth at around the time of implantation. To achieve this, the group utilizes both in vivo mouse models as well as in vitro stem cell culture systems and state-of the-art ultrasensitive transcriptomic, epigenomic and metabolomic techniques. This research project will employ high-throughput screening methods to uncover metallic regulators underpinning chromatin states of mouse stem cell models. Starting date for this position is the 1 June 2020, or upon agreement with the chosen candidate.

Job description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious post-doctoral candidate with a strong background in either stem cell and developmental biology and/or metabolomic research. The candidate implement high-throughput screening techniques to identify key metabolic players regulating chromatin states in vitro and in vivo. By using functional assays in combination with live imaging and ultra-sensitive chromatin mapping and metabolomic techniques the candidate will get at the underlying principles of epi-metabolic regulation.

About DanStem
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Stem Cell Biology – DanStem – addresses basic research questions in stem cell and developmental biology and translates results from basic research into new strategies and targets for the development of new therapies for diabetes and cancer. DanStem was established as a result of a series of international recruitments coupled with internationally recognized research groups focused on insulin producing beta cells and cancer research already located at the University of Copenhagen.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must hold a PhD degree in cell/developmental/stem cell biology/metabolomics or similar, with a track-record of successful scientific work.
  • Candidates should have a strong background in mouse genetics, cell biology and/or live cell imaging. Alternatively candidates with a background in metabolomics applied to animal models are also encouraged to apply.
  • Previous experience in metabolomics, bioinformatics, next-generation sequencing, mouse embryology and/or stem cell culture are considered an advantage.
  • Good English communication skills, both oral and written, are prerequisite for the successful candidate.

Terms of salary, work, and employment :
The employment is planned to start 1 July 2020 or upon agreement with the chosen candidate. The employment is initially for 2 years. The terms of employment are set according to the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations or other relevant professional organization. The position will be at the level of postdoctoral fellow and the basic salary according to seniority. Currently, the salary starts at 34.360 DKK/approx. 4,.590 Euro (October 2019-level). A supplement could be negotiated, dependent on the candidate ́s experiences and qualifications. In addition a monthly contribution of 17.1% of the salary is paid into a pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of December 11, 2019.
