Courteney Lai completed the dual degree program at the University of British Columbia, earning her Bachelor's of Science (BSc) in Cell Biology and Genetics and her Bachelor's of Arts (BA) in Psychology. She is currently a PhD Candidate in the Humphries laboratory at the Terry Fox Laboratory and in the Experimental Medicine Program at the University of British Columbia. Her main research interests centre on understanding how cancers form and progress in the context of leukemia, stem cell regulation, and developing targeted drug therapies. Outside of science, Courteney is passionate about scientific education at all levels, teaching and mentoring young minds through her leadership and volunteer roles at the Terry Fox Laboratory, StemCell Talks, Let’s Talks Science, the BC Cancer Foundation, and The Big Sisters of BC/Lower Mainland. She also devotes her time to advocating for students at the BC Cancer Agency Research Centre and the University of British Columbia and playing ultimate frisbee.
