1) Interesting question, which I don’t think I will fully answer in my project! We would need to define what functioning as human vs. chimp means. At the organoid level as a whole, this will need to include some functional assays (e.g. electrophysiology, calcium imaging). My readout and resolution will be on the single-cell level. So would be interesting to see shifts in expression profiles when seeding different proportions of human vs. chimp cells to make the organoids.
2) Cells in an organoid are at various stages of development, as is in a developing fetal brain!
