João Ramalho-Santos is Associate Professor at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, where he concluded his Ph.D in Cell Biology in 1997. He was a post-doctoral fellow in Reproductive Biology at Oregon Health & Science University USA (1997-2000), a Visiting Scientist at University of Pittsburgh, USA (2003-2006) and a Fulbright Fellow at University of California San Francisco, USA (2009). He currently is the Head of the Biology of Reproduction and Stem Cells Group at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology at the University of Coimbra, of which he is also Director. He works on the bioenergetics and metabolism of gametes and stem cells as related to Assisted Reproduction and differentiation. He is involved with several journals and performs evaluations for National and International agencies. He also publishes Science-related fiction in the Nature Futures section of Nature, and
