We are seeking a creative and exceptionally motivated candidate to fill a post-doctoral position in the field of skin development and regeneration. The relevant project will focus on the dissection of genetic pathways underlying sweat gland and mammary gland development, patterning, innervation and variation in humans and mice. This project is expected to lead into studies of skin appendage regeneration, a major outstanding obstacle in the creation of comprehensive skin substitutes.
Research in the Kamberov lab is directed at uncovering the developmental and genetic bases of human adaptive traits, with a core focus on the development and evolution of skin and skin derived organs such as sweat glands and hairs. In this pursuit, the lab investigates the developmental networks that control traits of interest, and leverages these as a basis for evolutionary studies to understand how these networks have been modified to give rise to adaptive human phenotypes. The goal of this research program is to not only enhance understanding of human evolution but also to apply what we have learned in translational efforts that lead to the improvement of human health and alleviation of disease, particularly in the context of skin and skin appendage regeneration.
