The laboratory of Dr. Kevin Francis at Sanford Research is accepting applications for a postdoctoral position which will be available beginning August 2021. The applicant’s projects will define the cellular and functional consequences of lipid metabolism on stem cell fate and function, with an emphasis on applications to rare diseases resulting from defects in lipid metabolism. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to utilize a wide range of experimental approaches, including two-dimensional and organoid-based human iPSC models, multielectrode array recordings, single cell RNA sequencing, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, transgenic mouse models, high content drug screens, and live-cell imaging studies to answer novel questions regarding the role of specific lipid species on differentiation, cellular signaling, and cell function. Candidates with expertise in human iPSCs or other stem cell models, genome editing, and/or cell biology are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience with in vivo rodent models or neurobiology is also desirable.

Requirements: PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree in a health or life science field with a history of publications and relevant research experience. Candidates must have received their terminal degree no more than one year prior to their start date. Successful candidates are expected to be self-motivated and capable of working both independently and collaboratively. Skills in independent experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, communication and writing are essential. Candidates will also assist in the completion of grant applications, write technical summaries and co-author articles for publication, prepare and make formal presentations of research results, and be able to work under broad direction of principal investigator.
