A postdoctoral fellow position is open in Dr. Xian-Jie Yang’s laboratory in the Stein Eye Institute at University of California Los Angeles.  The Yang laboratory has established a pluripotent stem cell-based human retinal organoid culture system and is using this system to study human retinogenesis and establishing retinal disease models.  The position is funded by California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM).  The research will focus on investigating fundamental mechanisms of cell fate specification and neuronal survival, as well as developing gene supplement and editing therapies.  As a part of an esteemed eye institute with strong vision science research, the Yang laboratory is active in the neuroscience, stem cell, and metabolism research communities on UCLA campus.  The research project provides opportunities for the postdoctoral fellow to master stem cell-based organoid derivation, neuronal culture imaging, metabolism and single cell transcriptome analyses, as well as viral vector-mediated gene delivery.

Salary: Based on US NIH postdoctoral fellow stipend scale: Yr-0, $53,760; Yr-1, $54,144 etc
