The Living Systems Institute at the University of Exeter is home to mathematicians, physicists, bioengineers, biologists and biomedical scientists. Driven by scientific curiosity and powered by interdisciplinary approaches, we seek to discover new knowledge and improve health. Our primary focus is on understanding and controlling the individual and collective properties of cells, encompassing the physical principles of tissue organisation. Under the Directorship of Austin Smith, we have launched an integrated programme of research into multicellular organisation and function exploiting recent advances in stem cell research. We seek exceptional interdisciplinary mathematicians, biophysicists and biologists to join our endeavour to elucidate the mathematical and biophysical principles of tissue formation. We are currently recruiting to four posts, including Professor in Biophysics with a research focus on cell differentiation, morphogenesis, and related areas.
