Job type: PhD

Location: Münster, Germany

Closing Date: 1 September 2022

Stefan Luschnig’s research group at the Institute of Integrative Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of Münster, Germany, invites applications for a

Doctoral Research Associate (PhD student)

(Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in; salary level 13 TV-L, 65%) in the area of

Regulation of epithelial barrier function.

This fixed-term position is available from the earliest possible date for the duration of three years. Currently, the regular working time for full-time employment is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week.

The Luschnig group investigates cellular, molecular, and developmental aspects of epithelial biology using a broad range of techniques, including modern imaging approaches. The Institute provides state-of-the-art microscopy infrastructure (CLSM, spinning disk, SIM, light-sheet, electron microscopy) and an international atmosphere. The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Integrated Research Training Group of the Collaborative Research Center 1348 “Dynamic Cellular Interfaces”, which offers a tailored training programme with subject-based interdisciplinary research courses, soft skills courses, and measures for career development.

Your tasks: The position is tied to working towards a doctorate (Ph.D.) in the area of epithelial dynamics and remodelling (see e.g. Isasti-Sanchez et al. (2021) Dev Cell 56, P1083–1099.e5).

Our expectations: Candidates with a strong background in cell or developmental biology, molecular biology or genetics are encouraged to apply. Applications from candidates interested in quantitative imaging are especially welcome. Experience with Drosophila is not an essential requirement. The prerequisite for this appointment is a MSc degree in biology, biochemistry, or a related field. German language skills are not required.

The University of Münster strongly supports equal opportunity and diversity. We welcome all applicants regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic or social background, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation or gender identity. The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the proportion of women academics. Consequently, we actively encourage applications by women.
