Postdoctoral Research Associate (Cnidarian Cell and Developmental Biology)
Posted by Abby Dreyer, on 5 December 2022
Location: Kansas City, MO
Closing Date: 15 April 2023
The Gibson Lab at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research has openings for postdoctoral researchers to develop independent projects investigating the molecular, genetic and cell biological mechanisms underlying coral-algal symbiosis in the rice coral Montipora capitata and/or any aspect of development or regeneration in the sea anemone Nematostella vectensis. The Gibson Lab has invested heavily in methods development over several years; new postdocs will be able to exploit established gain- and loss-of function pipelines and advanced bioinformatic infrastructure to interrogate symbiosis, development, or regeneration in these emerging cnidarian model systems. Specific research goals are flexible and can be fit to the interests of successful applicants. More details, including selected publications, can be found at https://research.stowers.org/gibsonlab/ .
Successful candidates will enjoy intramural research support from the Stowers Institute with strong support from core facilities that provide advice, training and service to enhance the Institute’s interdisciplinary and collaborative research programs. Current core facilities are staffed by over 100 scientists with expertise in advanced imaging, bioinformatics, genomics and next generation sequencing cytometry, histology, transgenic and ES cell technologies, proteomics and molecular biology. The Stowers Institute offers a highly competitive compensation and benefits package.
Minimum Requirements:
- A doctoral degree in the life sciences, chemistry, or biomedical engineering.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable but not required: molecular biology, developmental biology, genetics, genomics, cell biology, and imaging.
In addition to excellent verbal and written communication skills, successful candidates must be dynamic and highly motivated, work independently and creatively, have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, and be proficient at problem solving.
Application Instructions: To apply, please submit (1) a brief cover letter, (2) a current CV, and (3) 2 letters of professional reference to Dr. Matt Gibson at mg2@stowers.org cc: careers@stowers.org.
