Short-term Postdoc or RA position – Investigating the changing landscape of mRNA modifications during ageing at the Babraham Institute, Cambridge

Posted by , on 17 October 2023

Job type: Postdoc or Research Assistant

Location: Babraham Institute, Cambridge, UK

Closing Date: 30 October 2023

We are recruiting for either a Postdoctoral Scientist or Research Assistant to the McGough group, to help lead a research project in which the successful applicant will use Drosophila melanogaster as a model system to investigate the impact of ageing on mRNA modifications and protein translation. This will involve using RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (RIP-seq) methods to isolate and identify mRNAs with defined RNA modifications from young and old Drosophila. Proteomic approaches will be simultaneously used to reveal how age-linked changes in mRNA modifications, identified from RIP-seq, impact translation of modified mRNAs.

Previous experience with protein biochemistry (e.g., Western blotting, immunoprecipitation) is essential. Experience with proteomics, Drosophila and RNA-sequencing methodologies is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided. Postdoctoral applicants must have a PhD in cell or developmental biology. Research Assistant applicants should have at least an upper second-class honours degree and substantial laboratory experience. A collaborative nature and good communication skills are essential as the post will require extensive collaboration with other groups at the institute.

This is a limited term appointment with funding for this post expected to be available for a period of 15 months. A full job specification and role requirements can be found attached to this vacancy.

Informal enquiries can be addressed to Ian McGough (ian.mcgough@babraham.ac.uk)
