Postdoctoral researcher – early mammalian development
Posted by Barbara Pernaute, on 29 April 2025
Job type:
Location: Seville
Closing Date: 23 May 2025
The Pernaute Lab, located at the Andalusian Centre for Developmental Biology (CABD, Seville), is offering a 3 year posdoctoral position fully funded by the ERC Consolidator Grant EARLYFATE.
Research project
The main research interest of the lab is understanding the molecular mechanisms governing the cellular reprogramming that occurs after fertilisation in mammals and that converts the transcriptionally inactive zygote into a transcriptionally active totipotent embryo capable of forming all cell lineages. For this we focus not only on the study of processes historically associated with developmental biology like transcriptional regulation, but also on the role played by the mechanisms that regulate homeostasis maintenance, such as genome integrity control and splicing regulation (Wyatt et al 2022).
The proposed project will use a multidisciplinary approach that combines genome wide and cell focused techniques to study the way DNA damage responses are regulated in the pre-implantation mouse embryo and how this impacts zygotic genome activation and totipotency acquisition.
Required skills
Candidates should hold a PhD degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent, with extensive research experience in early mammalian embryo development and/or DNA damage responses or related fields. Previous experience of preimplantation embryo micromanipulation or transcriptomic data analysis would be highly valued.
The place
The candidate will join the Pernaute lab at the Andalusian Centre for Developmental Biology (CABD). The CABD, located in the beautiful and vibrant city of Seville, is a leading institute in developmental biology awarded with the “Maria de Maeztu” distinction for research excellence. Here groups take a collaborative, creative, multispecies and interdisciplinary approach to the study of developmental biology making it an outstanding environment for researchers interested in this subject
