Call for Expressions of Interest: Juan de la Cierva Postdoctoral Fellowship

Research project

We invite expressions of interest from motivated early-career researchers interested in applying for a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral fellowship to join our research group at the IBMB-CSIC in Barcelona.

Our research investigates how centrosomes, cilia, microtubules and associated cytoskeletal networks regulate neural progenitor cell behaviour and human central nervous system development. We are particularly interested in human-specific molecular mechanisms that support neural progenitor expansion and central nervous system development, and how their disruption contributes to neurodevelopmental disorders.

Our work combines human pluripotent stem-cell models, 3D neural organoids, live-cell and super-resolution imaging, molecular and cellular biology, and vertebrate models. Current research directions include the specific functions of human specific genes and the impact of genetic and environmental perturbations on neural development.

Candidate profile

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a PhD in a relevant field of biological or biomedical sciences and a strong interest in developmental biology, stem-cell biology, cell biology or neuroscience.

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:

• Human pluripotent stem-cell culture and neural differentiation.
• Cellular and molecular biology.
• Live-cell, confocal or super-resolution microscopy.
• Neural organoids or developmental models.
• Image analysis, quantitative biology or bioinformatics.

We particularly welcome candidates interested in developing their own research ideas within the group’s scientific framework.

Fellowship opportunity

The selected candidate will work with the group leader to develop a competitive application for the Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral fellowship, supporting the candidate’s scientific development and contribution to ongoing research in the laboratory. Fellowship awards are competitive and subject to the eligibility criteria and evaluation process of the official call.
