Nancy Papalopulu

Nancy Papalopulu did her PhD at the National Institute for Medical Research, London with Dr. Robb Krumlauf and a post-doc at the Salk Institute for Biomedical Research, US with Dr. Chris Kintner. She was a Group Leader at the Gurdon Institute, Cambridge, UK and moved to the University of Manchester to take up a Professorship in Developmental Neuroscience in 2006. She was a Wellcome Trust Senior Research Fellow for 15 years and is now a Wellcome Trust Investigator. She is an elected member of EMBO and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.  Nancy’s work combines experimentation with theoretical modelling to understand how transcription factor protein expression dynamics, in real time, at the single cell level, but in a tissue environment control fundamental cell state transitions during vertebrate neural development. Her work has recently moved to the field of cancer biology as many of the principles that have been uncovered in Developmental studies are useful in understanding plasticity and non genetic heterogeneity in the context of cancer. She is passionate about helping young scientists advance their careers.
