Fish Facility Technician position (60-100%) at the University of Geneva

The De Simone laboratory is looking for a highly motivated fish facility technician to participate in the operations of its facility. The laboratory offers an international and vibrant environment with opportunities to contribute to experiments, manage logistics and work directly with scientists.

Your main responsibility will be to maintain colonies of fish, in particular zebrafish. Your job will include feeding fish, preparing food, cleaning equipment and the facility, and monitoring animal health and welfare. Your activities will also include breeding fish, generating transgenic animals, genotyping, performing biopsies, collecting and taking care of embryos and other interventions. In addition, you will be in charge of the monitoring and maintenance of technical equipment and you will be involved in the organization of the animal facility and its protocols. You will directly interact with scientists and help them with their animal experiments.

The role requires motivation, flexibility, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to multi-task. The position is to be considered flexible in its hours, as the technician will participate in shifts during weekends, public holidays and vacations. In addition, the animal technician may be asked to intervene in the event of an emergency.

The appropriate CFC (or equivalent) is required. Module 1 Resal/LTK, knowledge of aquatic animals, as well as an excellent knowledge of English are significant assets.

The initial contract will be for one year with the possibility of a longer-term extension. The salary and benefits are in accordance with the standards of the University of Geneva. Start date is as soon as possible. The contract will be 60% to 100% (to be discussed with the applicant).
