The University of Portsmouth is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in the area of Bioinformatics. The School of Biological Sciences is well regarded as shown in league tables (14th in the Guardian league table) and has good student satisfaction scores. In addition, the School performed very well in the Research Excellence Framework (REF2021). In both UoA 3 (90%) and UoA 7 (82%) our research was overwhelmingly considered as being world leading or internationally excellent, and in both units 100% of the impact from our research was classified as 4*/3*, having outstanding and very considerable impacts in terms of reach and significance.

The successful candidate will strengthen the genomics research in the School and will contribute to the teaching in the areas of Bioinformatics and Genetics, with experience in the use of R and Python, and the analysis of next generation sequencing data. An understanding of the biological and evolutionary theory underpinning Bioinformatics is essential.

We are seeking an individual that is able to use their knowledge and skills, not only to further develop their own research, but also collaborate with colleagues and strengthen research within our established research areas within the School.

In addition to having published in relevant peer-reviewed journals, it is essential that the appointee is able to demonstrate experience of teaching in the areas described in addition to more general aspects of Biological Sciences and be able to offer pastoral care at UG/PG level.

Salary: £37,474 to £40,931 per annum
