NIH and NSF funded post-doctoral or research technician position in the Davidson lab, Swarthmore College.

We are searching for a post-doc or research technician who is passionate about both teaching and research. In the Davidson lab, we explore cardio-vascular evolution and development. One of our current projects focuses on heart growth and in particular how signals modulate cardiac stem cell division dynamics. Another focuses on how signaling receptors are trafficked in dividing cells to generate asymmetric induction within the cardiac progenitor lineage. A third focuses on the evolutionary acquisition of novel immune-related functions in blood cells. We study these questions in the invertebrate chordate, Ciona robusta. Due to extremely low cell numbers, we are able to conduct high resolution analysis of receptor trafficking in embryonic progenitor cells or division dynamics in juvenile cardiac stem cells. The ease of generating transgenic Ciona embryos and juveniles make this an excellent model organism for undergraduate research. This position represents a great opportunity for post-docs interested in undergraduate teaching and research. My two most recent post-docs, Christina Cota and C.J. Pickett, have both obtained tenure-track positions at primarily undergraduate institutions (Colby College and Salve-Regina University). It’s clear that their strong research records along with their demonstrated commitment to undergraduate mentoring and teaching made them both strong candidates for these highly competitive positions.

​Applicants should have a PhD (or be close to completing one) in a relevant subject area. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to undergraduate mentoring are essential. Ideally, candidates would also have experience with molecular cloning or confocal microscopy. I would also be very excited to recruit a candidate with expertise in computational approaches.
