PhD position in the Artegiani group

Our lab has expertise and interest in liver and brain biology and their associated diseases.

To this end, in the past years, we have developed 3D human organoid culture systems to grow mini-livers and mini-brains in a dish. We use these models together with state-of-the-art technologies such as for instance CRISPR-Cas9, to model different diseases, such as cancer and genetic disease, and to understand mechanisms underlining the pathogenesis as well as regulating proper organ development.

Job description

We are looking for a motivated and talented PhD student to join our lab at the Princess Maxima Center in Utrecht. The position is funded for 4 years with a full-time employment.

The position is funded by a recently awarded grant from the NWO open competition domain Science-M:

The PhD project will deal with understanding molecular mechanisms controlling human brain development (and how possibly the same mechanisms are altered in cancer) by using complementary human brain organoid approaches combined with crispr-based genetic editing tools.

Education and skills

Ideal candidates have recently completed their master education, and have a background in molecular, cellular biology and/or stem cell and developmental biology. We are looking for a talented and highly motivated candidate, that is willing to work as part of a team. The group and the institute are international and the work language is English.

The Princess Maxima Center is a research institute dedicated to basic and applied research for different aspects related to paediatric cancer. (https://research.prinsesmaximacentrum.nl/en/).
