Comparative Biology Of Pluripotency – laboratory of Austin Smith
We study the character and regulation of pluripotency in stem cell cultures and the mammalian embryo. Supported by an ERC Advanced Grant we are investigating the plasticity and dynamics of the pluripotency gene regulatory network in different mammals. We seek talented researchers motivated by fundamental scientific curiosity.
A key objective is to establish and validate naïve pluripotent stem cells from non-human primates, ungulates and marsupials using pluripotency network resetting and somatic cell reprogramming approaches. Parallel derivations from livestock embryos will be pursued in collaboration with Prof Ramiro Alberio, University of Nottingham.
The research will involve stem cell culture experimentation including molecular reprogramming, genetic modification, signalling pathway manipulation, and focussed chemical and genetic screening.
The post is available from 1 January 2023 for 3 years.
