Postdoc fellowship(s): epigenetics of brain development and degeneration

Posted by , on 27 November 2023

Location: Lund Stem Cell Center

Closing Date: 31 December 2023

We are looking for driven candidates with interest in:

  • Functional (epi)genomics
  • Chromatin biochemistry
  • Transposable and repetitive genetic elements
  • Human brain development and/or degeneration

The position(s)

1-2 positions are funded by a generous award from the Chan Zuckerberg initiative (https://chanzuckerberg.com/science/programs-resources/neurodegeneration-challenge/projects/?award=ben-barres-cycle-2).

As a postdoc in the Lab of Epigenetics and Chromatin Dynamics, you would help us to understand the control and influence of repetitive genetic elements – so-called ‘genomic dark matter’ – in human brain development and degeneration. We are entering a new genomic era enabling systematic studies of repeats and their biological functions. Mechanistic analysis in this area has been limited by a lack of technologies to resolve repetitive sequences – but such technologies (long-read sequencing, targeted epigenomics and an ever-developing CRISPR toolbox) have started to enable such studies. Those who are interested in gaining experience in wet or dry lab (or a combination thereof) are equally welcome to get in touch. We also encourage scientists from diverse or underrepresented backgrounds to apply.

The lab and environment

The team is led by PI Christopher Douse, and is currently composed of two PhD students, one research assistant and one MSc student. We are supported by outstanding core facilities at Lund Stem Cell Center. The lab is committed to an inclusive environment based on mutual respect, diversity of background and open sharing of data and ideas. We are excited to grow the team with these core principles front of mind. Through association with the Stem Cell Center, there are excellent opportunities for scientific and professional development. Sweden is a fantastic place for early career researchers, with a variety of grants aimed at postdocs acquiring their own research funding, access to state-funded childcare and a commitment to good work-life balance.

Interested? Apply by December 31st 2023 at 23:59 CET.

Contact Chris (christopher.douse[at]med.lu.se) for more information or to submit an application. An application consists of a cover letter summarizing your expertise and interests, a CV, and contact details for 2-3 references. Ideally, candidates would start in the first quarter of 2024, but this is somewhat flexible. For example, if you are just about to finish your PhD, feel free to get in touch.

Closing Date: 31 December 2023
