Postdoctoral fellow – Finet group @ OIST

Posted by , on 19 November 2025

Location: Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST)

Closing Date: 31 March 2026

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join our lab. The position is fully funded for 2 years, but we encourage the candidates to apply for their own fellowships. The suitable candidate will combine interdisciplinary approaches involving fly genetics, evo-devo, biochemistry, and material engineering.

The common theme of the lab is processes linked to the tinkering of chitin based-materials. It encompasses the morphogenesis of cuticle and cuticular micro- and nanostructures (developmental biology), the evolution and diversification of these structures (evo-devo), as well as the development of novel, sustainable chitin-based materials (bioinspiration & bioengineering). To tackle these questions, we use different insect models. More information is available on our lab website:

Preferred backgrounds:

1) PhD in Drosophila developmental biology

OR

2) PhD in biomaterial science

We have access to OIST state-of-the-art facilities and technology platforms including microscopy, material characterization and nanofabrication. For further details about the project and how to apply, use this link
