Postdoctoral fellow in stem cell fate decisions (UCSC)

Posted by , on 4 January 2023

Location: Santa Cruz, California

Closing Date: 1 January 2024

A postdoctoral position is available in the Shariati lab in the Department of Biomolecular Engineering, Baskin School of Engineering at University of California, Santa Cruz(UCSC). The department has a vibrant research community with strong focus on stem cell biology, RNA biology and Bioinformatics (home to UCSC genome browser). Our lab is affiliated with The Institute for the Biology of Stem Cells and UCSC Genomics Institute with access to state-of-the-art facilities.

Successful candidates will combine emerging single cell live imaging, genome-editing technologies to investigate how pluripotent stem cells choose between conflicting fates, division vs. differentiation, using synthetic models of the embryo. The overarching goal of the Shariati lab is to determine the mechanisms that link cell division to cellular differentiation in pluripotent cells. Notably, we have been successful in application of deep learning methods to automate analysis of single cell live imaging data (see preprint: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.03.10.434806v2)

Applicants with demonstrated experience in any of the following areas are highly encouraged to apply: Stem Cell Biology, Single Cell imaging and CRISPR screening.

Please email me (alish {a} ucsc.edu) a cover letter stating your scientific background and interest, your CV and names/addresses of your advisors. Informal inquires are welcomed!

Applicants from underrepresented groups in sciences are highly encouraged to apply. Informal inquires also are welcomed!
