Job type: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Location: Sheffield
Closing Date: 21 March 2022
Dr. Kyra Campbell
School of Biosciences, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral scientist to work within the Research Group of Dr. Kyra Campbell at the University of Sheffield, in association with Dr. Andreu Casali (IRB Lleida, Spain) and Prof. Geert Berx and Prof. Steven Goossens (University of Ghent, Belgium)
Establishing Drosophila melanogaster as part of the pre-clinical pipeline for anti-metastatic cancer drugs
An NC3Rs funded Research Associate position is available in Dr. Kyra Campbells research group (https://cellplasticity.weebly.com) to work with our exciting models for studying metastatic cancer using Drosophilamelanogaster (Campbell et al, Nat Comms 2019). The successful candidate will screen anti-EMT compounds, identified in in vitro screens in the Goossens/Berx labs in Belgium, for their ability to block metastatic progression in Drosophila. The effects of positive hits will then be characterized at the cellular and molecular level.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Campbell group, who are focused on identifying the molecular mechanisms underlying epithelial cell plasticity during development and disease. We study how this fundamental property is orchestrated during morphogenesis of the Drosophila midgut (Campbell et al, Dev Cell 2011; Campbell and Casanova, Nat Comms 2015; Pitsidianaki et al, JCB 2021), and also in our exciting Drosophila cancer models (Campbell et al, Nat Comms 2019; Adams et al, IJMS 2021). We combine single-cell OMICs approaches and deep-tissue fixed and live imaging on our labs own dedicated multiphoton confocal microscope with Airyscan, with genetic approaches and CRISPR/Cas9 technologies.
We are looking for a motivated applicant with a PhD in areas relevant to cell/development and/or cancer biology (or have submitted your PhD thesis) along with experience in in vivo imaging and image analysis. Applicants are expected to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be highly independent and committed to research in a fast-moving and competitive field.

The Campbell lab is based in the School of Biosciences in the University of Sheffield. The School of Biosciences has recently been created from a merger of the three Biology Departments: Animal and Plant Sciences, Biomedical Science and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. The school brings together over 120 academics with a breadth and depth of excellence in multiple areas. The school will create an enhanced Learning and Teaching offering giving students opportunities to experience a greater breadth of Bioscience teaching outside their main programme, and enhanced leadership and coordination of research to better promote excellence and successful exploitation of opportunities.
Females and members of under-represented groups are encouraged to apply.
