Project Title: Uncovering Unconventional Secretory Pathways in Glioblastoma
Project Overview: Glioblastoma (GB) is an aggressive brain cancer with a dire prognosis and limited treatment options. This project investigates the intense reciprocal interactions between GB cells and their microenvironment, particularly neurons. Recent discoveries by the Galli and Demetriades labs have identified two key pathways in unconventional protein secretion (UPS) that are pivotal in this cellular crosstalk:
- mTORC1-GRASP55 Signalling Axis: Acts as a central metabolic sensor controlling UPS in response to nutrient and stress stimuli.
- VAMP7- and Autophagy-Dependent Late Endosomal Secretion: Governs the secretion of ER and mitochondrial proteins.
Key Objectives:
- Elucidate the role of GRASP55- and VAMP7-dependent UPS in GB cells.
- Investigate how these pathways facilitate communication between GB cells and neurons.
- Study the impact of UPS on GB tumour progression using co-culture and in vivo models.
Why Join Us?
- Innovative Research: Contribute to groundbreaking studies on GB cell communication and tumour progression.
- Collaborative Environment: Work with leading experts in the Galli and Demetriades labs, leveraging complementary theoretical and technical expertise.
- Impactful Work: Help identify new therapeutic targets for glioblastoma, potentially improving patient outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Recent PhD in cell biology, cancer biology, neuroscience, or a related field interested in a first postdoctoral experience.
- Experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques.
- Expertise in microscopy and in vivo models is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Benefits:
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- Access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources.
- Opportunities for professional development and collaboration within a dynamic research environment.
Application Process: Interested candidates should submit the following documents in a single PDF entitled LASTNAME_Firstname_postdoc24:
- A cover letter outlining your research interests and experience.
- Curriculum vitae (CV) with a list of publications.
- Contact information for three references.
