Research Assistant Drosophila genetics: planar cell polarity (Fixed Term)

This position, to start on September 1st, 2022, will be based in a small research group led by Peter Lawrence and José Casal in the Department of Zoology (University of Cambridge). Our group is working on different aspects of planar cell polarity using Drosophila as the experimental model. The position is full time for a period of four months. We are supported by the Leverhulme Trust .

The successful candidate will work to complete a specific project which has been several years in the making, mainly in collaboration with Dr Casal. The work will involve genetics, so flies will crossed and selected to generate stocks and to make genetic mosaics in pupal flies. The experiments require cell labelling by using fluorescent tagged proteins and the results studied in the confocal microscope. If the work goes to completion, as we expect and hope, we will write up the results for publication in 2023 and the postholder will be an author of the paper. Because this post is only a short one we seek a person already experienced with the confocal microscope as well as with software such as ImageJ.
