Posted by Helen Zenner, on 8 January 2026
Location: Cambridge, UK
Closing Date: 2 February 2026
Journal of Cell Science, published by The Company of Biologists, is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Reviews Editor.
Joining an experienced and successful journal team, this is an exciting opportunity for a talented scientific editor to make a significant contribution to an important journal in the field of cell biology. In addition to publishing outstanding primary research articles, Journal of Cell Science publishes review articles, topical commentaries and opinion-based pieces, and is always looking to improve its services to the cell biology community.
Applicants should have a PhD, and ideally postdoctoral experience, in cell biology or a relevant scientific field, and a broad knowledge of cell biology. The successful candidate will have strong communication, networking and interpersonal skills. We are also looking for enthusiasm, motivation, commitment, and a broad interest in science and the scientific community. We particularly welcome applicants with experience of commissioning and handling review-type content and/or with general editorial knowledge. Experience is not essential, however, and we will provide full on-the-job training and support for the successful candidate.
Core responsibilities of the Reviews Editor include:
- Commissioning, handling peer review and developmental editing of review-type content
- Contributing to the ‘Cell Scientists to Watch’ interviews section of the journal
- Writing content for the Research Highlights section of the journal
- Representation of the journal at national and international conferences, and within the wider scientific community
- Creative involvement in the journal’s development and marketing activities
Additional responsibilities may be available for the right candidate and the starting salary will be based on experience.
The Reviews Editor will work alongside an Executive Editor and a Features & Reviews Editor, as well as with our Editor-in-Chief and international team of Academic Editors. Additional collaboration with the in-house Journal of Cell Science team, and with the other journal teams, makes this a dynamic and stimulating environment to work in. This is a permanent position, based in The Company of Biologists’ attractive modern office on the outskirts of Cambridge, UK, with the option of 50% remote working.
To apply, please email recruitment@biologists.com with your CV, a covering letter stating current salary, relevant experience and why you are enthusiastic about this opportunity. Please also include a 400-word summary of a recent ground-breaking development in cell biology. The application deadline is 2 February 2026, but we will consider applications on a rolling basis so encourage candidates to apply as soon as possible.
