The Nicoli lab (https://nicolilab.com) in the Department of Genetics at Yale University is looking to hire a scientist specializing in research development, scientific writing and communication to maximize research discovery and impact across all projects. Working closely with Dr. Nicoli, you will be responsible for research synergy and scientific strategy of the lab through discussions with the PIs as well as with the lab members. A major part of the role is to facilitate research development through strategizing and writing grant submissions and research manuscripts, letters of intent, letters of support, administrative reporting and so on. Additionally, the position will provide key strategic support to further core values of diversity, innovation and excellence in biomedical research shared by the lab and the Department of Genetics. The successful candidate with split the role with an additional lab at the Department of Genetics.
The primary responsibilities are:
- To attend lab meeting and interact one to one with all members of two laboratories to develop a deep understanding of all the scientific projects.
- Work with the heads of the laboratories to plan, organize, and write letters of intent, major grant renewals and de novo grant submissions.
- Provide key input on the organization and writing of new and ongoing manuscript submissions.
- Co-write letters of support for lab members and others more broadly associated with the head’s labs.
- Provide support for heads of the lab in new and ongoing lab initiative and research administration on an ad hoc basis.
This is a multidimensional role that spans academic, administrative, research support and advisory activities. Working closely with Dr. Nicoli, you will serve as a trusted advisor, researcher, writer, trainer and project planner the lab. For the successful applicant, this position will provide excellent training in the skills of research development and science communication, which will be useful for a subsequent career in research development, science writing, editing, and/or policy. Qualification:
We seek an individual with a background in the life sciences who has well-developed writing skills, the ability to multitask, strong critical thinking and a strong sense of collegiality and responsibility. Additionally, the individual must be motivated, reliable and flexible, and can work both independently and within a team. The individual must have exceptional communication and organization skills to support and coordinate multiple researchers.
Candidates should hold a PhD in the life sciences. Candidates must have outstanding written communications skills and be highly organized with the demonstrated ability to prioritized, plan, multitask, and meet deadlines. Prior experience in writing and/or editorial experience is not required, however may be considered favorably.
