Fully funded 4-year BBSRC NWD PhD studentship opportunity to advance neuroscience through vCLEM techniques

Posted by , on 17 November 2025

Location: Liverpool

Closing Date: 7 December 2025

🧠 🧠 If you are looking for a PhD, are passionate about electron microscopy, neurons, ageing and neurodegeneration, come and join in this fully funded PhD project focused on Developing a vCLEM pipeline for high-resolution analysis of neurons of the ageing Drosophila brain.

This inter-disciplinary project will provide broad training to the student: genetic manipulations; cell-culture of primary neurons, as starting samples for vEM, then moving towards in vivo studies; detail understanding of cell biology; multiple light microscopy and EM related techniques; computational tools and machine learning.

👥 Supervisory Team:

  • Prof. Ian Prior – Expert in Biomedical Electron Microscopy
  • Dr. Natalia Sanchez-Soriano – Specialist in Neurobiology and Drosophila models of brain ageing

Deadline: 7th of December !!!
