Clones in Bones – 24 months post-doctoral position at iBV in Nice, France

Posted by , on 25 May 2025

An Inserm post-doctoral position is available in the Adaptive Regulation of Organ Size (AROS) Team, recently relocated to the institute of biology Valrose (iBV, Nice, France). The aim is to create and study new mouse genetic models that, together with established tools for lineage-tracing and manipulation of gene-expression levels, will help disentangling the regulation of the number of cartilage progenitors. The new allele is expected to transiently increase the number of a target cell population, creating and imbalance that is subsequently buffered by compensatory mechanisms. This approach is based on our previous results showing that cells external to the cartilage can detect growth defects in the cartilage and transdifferentiate and migrate into the cartilage. We will take advantage of live imaging and a time series analyses of gene expression by single-cell RNA-seq to achieve a non-biased identification of the regulatory network that controls the number of cartilage progenitor cells.

The candidate will contribute to the experimental and bioinformatic analyses of new mouse genetic models aimed at deciphering how the number of cartilage chondroprogenitors are regulated in limb development. and repair Candidates should hold a PhD in cellular and molecular biology. Experience in live imaging of mouse embryos and sophisticated image analysis is required. Experience in bioinformatic analysis of single-cell data will be very positively regarded. The successful candidate will possess strong self-motivation, excellent written and spoken English communication skills and team spirit.

Applications for pre-selection are encouraged until 31 August 2025, with the official contract to be issued shortly after that. Eligibility to apply for fellowships such as HFSP, EMBO, Marie Curie and IdEX Young Researcher Excellence programme should be stated in the application, as the successful candidate will be encouraged to apply to these schemes.

The institute of Biology Valrose, (iBV http://ibv.unice.fr), is a leading Center for research in cellular and developmental biology. It is located on the Valrose Campus of the University of Nice. It hosts an international PhD program and welcomes post-doctoral researchers from more than 20 countries, which makes it very lively. Nice is a beautiful city on the French Riviera with a cosmopolitan lifestyle.
