Location: Seattle
Closing Date: 1 April 2024
We are pleased to announce that the Postbaccalaureate Scholar Program at Fred Hutch Cancer Center has officially opened its scholar application for 2024-2025 year. This 2-year postbac program is based in the beautiful South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle, Washington.
Program description
The Fred Hutch postbac program is for individuals who recently completed undergraduate degrees (or are switching careers) and would benefit from research experience and training to successfully matriculate in and complete a PhD program. The postbac program consists of a 40-hour per week research technician role in a lab and an 4-8 hour per week scholar role outside of the lab. In the research technician role, scholars will complete an independent project in a Fred Hutch lab with mentorship from the PI and other lab members. The student scholar component has a curriculum designed to develop a foundation for further graduate studies and a career in research. In the scholar role, postbacs will attend journal clubs, seminars, mentee, and professional development training sessions, and present at our annual symposium.
Eligibility
- Fred Hutch postbaccalaureate scholars should be recent college graduates (ideally <2 years post-graduation) or individuals who are switching careers with interests in pursuing biomedical PhD-level training who would benefit from strengthening their skillset before graduate school.
- Scholars from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
- Citizenship: US citizens are eligible. International applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Salaries and benefits
Scholars’ salary starts at $50,000 and there is an additional $5,000 participation award for being in the program. Since the scholars are full-time employees, they also receive the comprehensive health benefits that the Hutch has to offer.
