Fully funded PhD project

Posted by , on 11 June 2024

Location: GReD Institute - Clermont-Ferrand

Closing Date: 31 July 2024

We are looking for a motivated and talented student to join a fully funded PhD project in the Claire Chazaud lab (https://www.igred.fr/en/team/molecular-mechanisms-of-cell-lineage-differentiation-in-the-early-mouse-embryo/) at the Institut GReD (Clermont-Ferrand, France).

The aim of the project is to uncover how the specification of the epiblast is initiated during mouse preimplantation stages. As the epiblast is the source of embryonic stem (ES) cells, the PhD student will unravel how the pluripotent state is acquired. We have recently found that the transcription factor NANOG is required in this transition (Allegre et al, Nat Comm, 2022) and we are now investigating how.

Several techniques (FISH/IF with confocal microscopy, Proximity ligation assay, embryo cultures, single-cell RNAseq, CRISPR/CAS9, ChIPseq/CUT&RUN…) and tools (transgenic reporters or KO mice and ES cells) will be used or developped

The Chazaud lab is part of the Institut GReD (https://www.igred.fr/en/) with strong collaborative structure and a highly stimulating and dynamic research atmosphere between the 15 teams working on epigenetics, developmental biology, endocrinology and cancer with different models (plants, flies, mice, human). The Institut GReD provides several facilities such as imaging, Bioinformatics, transgenic mouse house, cell culture rooms, FACS…

Experience/knowledge in molecular biology is required and background in developmental biology will be preferred.

English is the working language, French speaking is not a requirement.

Please send a CV, a letter describing research interests and the contact information of at least two referees to claire.chazaud@uca.fr

Start date: 1 October 2024

Closing Date: 31 July 2024
