PhD Candidate – Morphogenesis in Human Neural Organoids

Posted by , on 8 October 2026

Location: Barcelona

Closing Date: 30 October 2026

We are offering a PhD position at the Molecular Biology Institute of Barcelona (IBMB) to investigate the morphogenetic mechanisms underlying lumen formation in human neural tube organoids. The position is part of an ERC Advanced Grant project led by Elisa Martí, which aims to uncover human-specific mechanisms underlying spina bifida.

The successful candidate will join an ambitious research program and will have the opportunity to apply cutting-edge experimental and quantitative approaches. These include advanced live-imaging techniques and gene editing in human embryonic stem cells, while leveraging the recently developed technology at the group of Elisa Marti for generating human neural tube organoids. The position will be embedded in a collaboration between the groups of Elisa Martí and Esteban Hoijman, providing an exciting, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment.

IBMB is part of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and is located at the Barcelona Science Park, a vibrant scientific environment that brings together leading research institutes and biotechnology companies.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate who is passionate about developmental biology and eager to investigate fundamental questions in human morphogenesis using state-of-the-art organoid technologies.

To apply or request further information, please contact Elisa Martí at emgbmc@ibmb.csic.es and Esteban Hoijman at ehkbmc@ibmb.csic.es by October 30, 2026.
