Postdoctoral Affairs Coordinator

The Stowers Institute has an opening for a Postdoctoral Affairs Coordinator to coordinate and manage the ongoing development of the Stowers postdoctoral training program. The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating training activities, advising postdoctoral trainees, providing resources to them, as well as working closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) and the Postdoctoral Training Steering Committee.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Fostering a climate of excellence, collaboration, and inclusion
  • Overseeing postdoctoral training standards and postdoctoral trainee support services
  • Assisting with strategic planning as it relates to postdoctoral training matters
  • Responding to and resolving policy questions, discipline issues, and concerns from faculty
  • Monitoring training progress and supporting postdoctoral researchers
  • Resolving postdoctoral researcher complaints
  • Responsible for serving on the Postdoctoral Training Steering Committee
  • Developing and implementing orientation programs for entering postdoctoral researchers
  • Developing and implementing postdoctoral programs including peer mentoring network and monthly seminars
  • Assisting with selections and invitation of external speakers
  • Developing and maintaining internal electronic resources for postdoctoral trainees
  • Coordinating the completion of annual Individual Development Plans (IDP) and mentoring team meetings
  • Developing and implementing marketing and recruitment strategies and materials
  • Managing Stowers postdoctoral training social media presence
  • Overseeing recruiting efforts, attending recruiting events and communicating with applicants, candidates and newly admitted postdoctoral researchers
  • Attending external meetings as required to maintain up-to-date information on postdoctoral training issues
  • Coordinating relationships with external professional development training consultants such as BioKansas
  • Overseeing BioKansas training events
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

 

The successful candidate will be a self-starter willing to commit the required effort to accomplish objectives and identify opportunities. Candidates should demonstrate solid problem-solving skills with the ability to think “outside the box” and innovatively. The ability to effectively prioritize one’s workload and manage changes in direction and priority is essential. Successful candidates will be a team player who demonstrates and fosters a partnering attitude, striving to create the best postdoctoral experience possible for all.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum PhD in a basic science or related field
  • Significant experience in teaching, advising and scientific training programming
  • Postdoctoral training preferred
  • Experience developing and implementing training programming
  • Direct experience working in a basic research laboratory and/or teaching courses in basic science
