Posted by , on 16 July 2021

Job type: Postdoctoral Fellow

Location: Evanston, Chicago

Closing Date: 1 July 2022

Looking for a self-motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the Unit of Functional Genomics in Psychiatry at the Center for Psychiatric Genetics of NorthShore University HealthSystem (NUH), academically affiliated with the University of Chicago. This position will be reporting to a PI/Supervisor who is an Associate Professor at the University of Chicago. The lab’s research focus is on using patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC)-derived neurons and brain organoids models to study the molecular and neurobiological basis of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders (Forrest MP, et a., Cell Stem Cell. 2017; Zhang S. et al. Science. 2020). The laboratory work will involve iPSC culture, neuron differentiation, open chromatin mapping, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, single cell RNA-seq and ATAC-seq, CRISPRi/a for gene perturbation, scaled morphological and electrophysiological analyses of neurons and brain organoids. The current position is NIH grant-funded, with neuronal activity-dependent epigenomic regulation as one of the research topics. In this role, you will have the opportunity to take part in the computational analyses of large genomic datasets such as single-cell ATAC-seq/RNA-seq. This position reports directly to the PI. This is a full-time position and is benefits eligible.

In this role, you will:

  • Take a lead in work involved in multiple NIH funded projects
  • Work independently under the supervision of the PI
  • Ability to prepare scientific manuscripts for publication
  • Ability to develop scientific proposals to apply for fellowships
  • Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect experiment or reporting of results and of taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel
  • Comply with NorthShore University HealthSystem research guidelines Follow Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulations and local, state, and federal research regulations
  • Ability to assist in the submission of research applications, revisions, periodic progress reports

Our ideal candidates will have:

  • PhD required in a science field
  • Background in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Neuroscience, Genetics/Genomics, or computational biology
  • Experience with stem cell culture and neuroscience research or the capability of analyzing large genomic datasets is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills
