Location: Villefranche-sur-Mer

Closing Date: 27 August 2026

The Plankton Senses team is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to join a project investigating the evolutionary origins of sensation in animals, with a focus on the role of TRP channels in shaping behavior and sensory transduction at the base of the animal tree.

The successful candidate will:

  • Characterize sensory-driven behaviors in two phylogenetically key model species: the cnidarian Clytia hemisphaerica and the colony-forming choanoflagellate Salpingoeca rosetta.

  • Dissect the role of TRP channels in these organisms using a combination of genetics, immunochemistry, and live  imaging.

Our group is one of eight teams within the Villefranche-sur-Mer Developmental Biology Laboratory (LBDV) at the Institut de la Mer de Villefranche-sur-Mer (IMEV). The LBDV/IMEV offers access to state-of-the-art facilities and expertise on imaging, aquaculture and bioinformatics. The LBDV supports a rich scientific environment including seminars, international meetings,
and institutional retreats.
