The Friedrich Miescher Laboratory (FML) of the Max Planck Society comprises four junior research groups that deal with different areas of biology. The FML was founded in 1969 and employs international scientists and fellows as well as support staff to promote scientific knowledge and careers.
We are looking for a
Technical Assistant (100%)
Start date: as soon as possible (flexible)
You will join the Aztekin Lab (Structural Regeneration) and support the team in experimental and organizational tasks.
Our working group
We are an open, collaborative, and intellectually stimulating group of international scientists. Our expertise combines developmental biology, regenerative biology, (single-cell/spatial) genomics, and molecular biology. We work with diverse model systems (e.g., frogs, mice, mouse and human stem cell cultures and organoids). The laboratory is located in the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory of the Max Planck Society, which is part of the Max Planck Campus in Tübingen, where we work closely with the MPI for Intelligent Systems, the MPI for Cybernetics, the MPI for Biology and the University of Tübingen.
Your tasks
- Maintenance of cell cultures and organoids, including routine passaging, quality control, and cryopreservation
- CRISPR-Cas9-based gene editing, including the design and generation of knockout and knock-in constructs, and relevant cloning strategies
- Preparing samples for next-generation sequencing, including library preparation (e.g., scRNA-Seq)
- Performing standard molecular biology techniques including qPCR, western blotting, and immunofluorescence
- Ordering and preparing laboratory consumables and solutions
- Providing basic training for new laboratory members in standard molecular biology and genetic techniques, equipment, and laboratory regulations
- Updating laboratory organization documents (e.g. location of primers, reagents, protocols)
Your profile
- Training as a biological-technical assistant or a comparable qualification
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Solid hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques
- Excellent organizational skills
- Experience with electronic lab notebooks, and digital ordering systems
- Experience with computers and Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel)
- Enjoyment of working with international people in a collaborative environment
Required qualifications
- Prior experience with mammalian stem cell cultures
- Prior experience with CRISPR-Cas9-based gene editing and molecular cloning
Preferred (not required)
- Experience preparing libraries for next-generation sequencing methods (e.g., scRNA-Seq)
- Experience with cryosectioning
- Fluent in written and spoken German
