Job type: Tenure stream faculty position
Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Closing Date: 1 December 2023
The Department of Cell Biology and the Women and Children’s Health Research Institute (WCHRI) at the University of Alberta are inviting applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position from individuals with evidence or promise of an innovative and independent research program in stem cell biology, especially as it relates to rare diseases affecting children. Applicants will have a PhD and relevant post-doctoral experience studying topics that may include but are not limited to: the roles of stem cells in development and/or disease using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs); organoids or other stem cell models; tissue-resident stem cells; transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of stem cell regeneration, pluripotency and reprogramming. We are especially interested in candidates applying a combination of cutting-edge approaches to human iPSC models to gain insights into the fundamental cell biological mechanisms underlying diseases.
The individual will be an active member in the research and undergraduate and graduate teaching programs in Cell Biology and an academic member of WCHRI. As part of their research and administrative functions, they will also be expected to play a leading role in supporting a newly established iPSC core laboratory. This core, supported by a technician, will facilitate the derivation of iPSCs from somatic cells, providing expertise and training to researchers in human iPSC and embryonic stem cell culture and to serve as a resource for sharing iPS cell lines and technology. It is anticipated this core will facilitate hands-on training and workshops teaching basic methods of iPSC culturing techniques and provide consultation and support for stem cell projects.
The position will remain open until filled but review of the applications will begin April 12, 2023.
Note: This position is part of a ‘cohort’ hire of up to 5 research-focused faculty in the fundemental science departments on the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry
