Professor and CRC Chair, Tier 1, in Neurodevelopment

The University of Calgary Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is inviting applications for a tenured faculty position in the field of Neurodevelopment, at the rank of full Professor. Applicants currently at the Associate Professor level eligible for promotion to full Professor are encouraged to apply. The selected candidate will be nominated for a Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) Tier I Canada Research Chair (CRC). The CRC Chair is tenable for seven years and renewable once.

 

Applicants must have a PhD (or equivalent), be a Full Professor (or eligible for promotion to this rank), with demonstrated research leadership and outstanding research productivity as demonstrated by excellent publications and demonstrated success in the acquisition of external research funding and awards. The applicant must also meet the criteria for a Canada Research Chair at the Tier I level. Applications are encouraged from candidates using model systems, including but not limited to C. elegans, Drosophila, zebrafish, rodents, human iPSCs/brain organoids, to study fundamental programs driving neural development. Applicants who model neurodevelopmental conditions are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a vigorous, externally funded research program (for which 75% time will be protected). The candidate will join a vibrant, collaborative community of investigators focussing on developmental neuroscience. The candidate will contribute to teaching graduate topics in neural development and the supervision of graduate students.

 

This position is aligned with the Azrieli Accelerator at the University of Calgary, a $25M gift from the Azrieli Foundation to catalyze neurodevelopment research across the lifespan, and in partnership with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute (https://research4kids.ucalgary.ca), the Owerko Centre (https://research4kids.ucalgary.ca/owerko) and Hotchkiss Brain Institute (https://hbi.ucalgary.ca/). The Chairholder will join an established, multidisciplinary, and cross-faculty group of basic, translational, and clinical neuroscientists.
