Engineer position in biology – Lenne Lab, IBDM, Marseille, France

An engineer position in biology is available starting in September 2022 in the Lenne group at the Developmental Biology Institute of Marseille (IBDM), France.  The initial appointment will be made for 18 months, with potential to be extended, subject to satisfactory performance and funding.

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate, who will support an interdisciplinary project on self-organization of embryonic organoids.

THE MAIN TASKS OF THE ENGINEER WILL BE:

• Cell culture, preparation of organoids, generation and characterisation of new cell lines (30% of time);
• Development and adaptation of experimental protocols (e.g. multiplexed antibody-based imaging protocols, single cell sequencing) (40% of time);
• Lab manager: manage the team’s stocks and the culture room (25% of time);
• Supervision of new team members and trainees on aspects related to cell culture (5% of time).

THE CANDIDATES SHOULD:

• Hold a master or engineer degree and have a 3 year’s experience in laboratory;
• Have a very good experience in cell culture of mammalian cell lines (experience with embryonic stem cell or iPSC culture or organoid/spheroid generation techniques is a plus).
• Have a very good experience in the use of immunostaining techniques;
• Be familiar with molecular biology techniques;
• Be able to design and carry out a variety of experiments, as well as to analyse and synthetize the raw experimental results;
• Be fluent in English, as it is the working language.
• Have scientific curiosity;
• Be autonomous while enjoying teamwork;
• Possess a very good organisational capacity

Within our team and in collaboration with the teams of the Turing Center for Living Systems, the engineer will be able to acquire skills in conventional and advanced microscopy, image analysis, biophysical techniques (mechanical and microfluidic measurements) and organoids.
