Postdoc and PhD positions: Growth control in Drosophila

Posted by , on 20 March 2013

Closing Date: 15 March 2021

Post-doctoral and PhD positions are available in the lab of Savraj Grewal, University of Calgary, Canada.

The main focus of the lab is to study the control of growth using Drosophila as a model system. We use a combination of molecular, genetic and proteomic approaches to investigate the cell-cell signalling pathways and the genetic mechanisms that control how cell, tissue and body growth are regulated during development.

Post-doc applicants with a strong background in developmental biology, genetics, or molecular biology are encouraged to apply. PhD applicants should have a strong undergraduate degree in any area related to the biological sciences. Interested individuals should send a CV, a one-page statement of research interests, and three names of references to grewalss[at]ucalgary.ca. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and positions will remain open until filled.

  1. Dear Dr. Savraj Grewal,

My name is Rihab, Canadian permanent resident and, currently, I’m a full time postdoctoral researcher at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. I’m working in Ditte Andersen and Julien Colombani Group using Drosophila melanogaster as a model. My research is funded by Novo Nordisk. Prior to that I have worked in a drosophila lab in Nice, France (University of Sophia Antipolis) where I previously graduated my master and my PhD.

With strong background in drosophila genetics and gut physiology, the aim of my actual project is to investigate the physiological functions of Tumor Necrosis Factors (TNF) signaling in regulating metabolism and promoting gastrointestinal health. My research project is well advanced and I started writing the article for publication. The end of my actual contract will be in January 2022. Despite the interesting offer to stay 4 more years as a postdoctoral researcher, I have to go back to Canada for family reasons.

I’m looking for a research position in an appropriate Lab in Ontario and your Lab can be a good fit for my research goals. I believe there could be interesting projects that we could develop and I will be very glad to discuss.

I will be happy to discuss with you via zoom/ Skype about my research experience and opportunities that you might have in your Lab.

    Please find attached my CV.

Thanks for considering the time to read my email.

    Best regards,

    Rihab Loudhaief, PhD
