The Centre for Trophoblast Research (CTR)

The Centre for Trophoblast Research (CTR) is a centre of excellence to promote scientific study of the placenta, early development and maternal-fetal interactions during pregnancy. The centre brings together over 30 Principal Investigators, many of whom are recognized international experts in their fields. About the role

The purpose of the role of the CTR Lab Manager is to further support the interface of clinical and basic sciences research within the CTR. Reporting to the CTR Director, Professor Kathy Niakan, you will be instrumental in supporting the development of innovative research within the CTR and expanding the network of clinical collaborators, ensuring Cambridge remains a world leader in research in placental biology and reproduction.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading day-to-day operations of CTR laboratory facilities shared by basic and clinical researchers to promote an environment that enables the delivery of research at the highest level;
  • Overseeing the CTR Human Uterus in Pregnancy and Disease Biobank, including oversight of records and databases to ensure regulatory compliance;
  • Managing CTR licensing activities including liaising with collaborating clinics, maintaining updated research licenses and Research Ethics Committee approved research projects, submissions of licence renewals, amendments, and annual reports;
  • Acting as the first point of contact to train and support CTR fellows and visiting scientists;
  • Coordinating provision of the existing Placental Biology Course, including submitting applications for funding to support participation from underrepresented groups and organising the course content and lecturers to ensure high quality provision of teaching and training;
  • Managing the CTR Technician to ensure smooth running of CTR research activities and to provide assistance with research licencing and coordination of training;
  • Working collaboratively with the Executive Manager to develop funding applications and shared equipment bids.

Should you wish, you will also be supported and mentored to develop a research programme closely aligned with the CTR Grand Challenges.

What you will need

You should have a PhD in a relevant subject and previous experience in laboratory management. Please refer to the further particulars document for a full list of essential skills and qualifications.

Contract details

Appointments will be made on a fixed-term, full-time, basis for a period of 3 years, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding. The salary range is £32,348 – £42,155.

We would also welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
