PhD student position in epithelial tissue dynamics, Münster, Germany

Posted by , on 25 January 2022

Location: Münster, Germany

Closing Date: 1 March 2022

Prof. Stefan Luschnig’s research group at the Institute of Integrative Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of Münster, Germany, invites applications for a

Doctoral Research Associate (PhD student position)

(Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in; salary level 13 TV-L, 65%) in the area of

Remodelling of cell-cell contacts during epithelial morphogenesis.

This fixed-term position is available from the earliest possible date for a duration of three years. Currently, the regular working time for full-time employment is 39 hours and 50 minutes per week.

The Luschnig group investigates developmental, cellular, and molecular aspects of epithelial biology using a broad range of techniques, including modern imaging approaches. The Institute houses five groups working with Drosophila and provides state-of-the-art microscopy infrastructure (CLSM, spinning disk, SIM, light-sheet, electron microscopy) and an international atmosphere.

Your tasks: The position is tied to working towards a doctorate (Ph.D.) in the area of cell-cell contact remodelling during epithelial morphogenesis (see e.g., Isasti-Sanchez et al. (2021) Dev Cell 56, P1083–1099.e5).

Our expectations: Candidates with a strong background in cell or developmental biology, molecular biology or genetics are encouraged to apply. Applications from candidates interested in quantitative imaging are especially welcome. Experience with Drosophila genetics is not an essential requirement. The prerequisite for this appointment is a MSc degree in biology, biochemistry, or a related field.

The University of Münster is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to increasing the proportion of women academics. Consequently, we actively encourage applications by women. Female candidates with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered within the framework of the legal possibilities. The University of Münster is committed to employing more staff with disabilities. Candidates with recognised severe disabilities who have equivalent qualifications are given preference in hiring decisions.

Applications should include a motivation letter, a curriculum vitae, and a grade transcript. The application deadline is March 1st 2022. Applications should be sent electronically as one single file in PDF format to:
