Postdoctoral Fellow position available to study the role of phospholipids and ion channels in neuron migration, University of California – Davis (USA)

Posted by , on 9 April 2021

Location: University of California - Davis (USA)

Closing Date: 31 August 2021

Postdoctoral Fellow position available

University of California Davis, School of Medicine

The Dickson and Simo labs in the Departments Physiology and Membrane Biology & Cell Biology and Human Anatomy at the University of California Davis School of Medicine are seeking a post-doctoral scientist to join a fun research collaboration. Our labs are interested in the role of ion channels and signaling lipids in neuronal migration during development of the cortex. Recent and ongoing projects from our labs have focused on crucial molecular pathways for brain development and neuron fidelity in health and disease. To study dynamic signaling pathways, we use mouse genetics, in utero electroporation, molecular techniques, proteomics, lipidomics, patch clamp electrophysiology, and multiple advanced imaging modalities including TIRF, confocal and state-of-the-art super-resolution technologies.

Successful candidates will enjoy a supportive, diverse, and stimulating laboratory environment with cutting-edge instrumentation and facilities, and a strong culture of training and mentorship.

Applicants must have a PhD, or MD degree and should have a demonstrated background in neuroscience, neurophysiology, and/or cell biology and signaling cascades. Previous experience in at least one of the following is really helpful: enzymatic isolation of primary neurons, cell biology and cell signaling, patch clamp electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and fluorescence microscopy. The applicant should have a strong publication record, be able to independently design and conduct experiments, be an effective communicator and problem-solver willing to work within a collaborative team.

Successful applicants will be expected to stay abreast of current literature in the field, design and execute experiments, assist in the collection of data for grant applications, and to prepare their results for presentation at national and international scientific conferences and for publication in peer-reviewed journals. UC Davis is a supportive, diverse, and collaborative community, ideally situated in the sunny Sacramento Valley between beautiful Lake Tahoe and the San Francisco Bay Area.

TO APPLY:

Interested candidates should send their CV/biosketch, a cover letter expressing their interest in the position, and the name and email of three qualified references to both Drs. Sergi Simo and Eamonn Dickson, via email ssimo@ucdavis.edu, ejdickson@ucdavis.edu
