Our jobs page has been very busy again, including several positions in publishing. Here are some of the other highlights:
Research:
– Néstor discussed his recent paper in Developmental Cell on the role of GATA6 in primitive endoderm specification (and some of the techniques used).
– Jenna and Jessica explained how they established zebrafish as a model to study tendon development in their recent work published in Development.
– How good is a ‘use it or loose it’ model at explaining neuronal connections in the vertebrate retina? The students of the developmental neurobiology seminar at Reed College posted their last journal club discussion.
– And we reposted an article from the F1000Research blog about a recent study where Kenneth Lee and colleagues attempted to reproduce the STAP study.
– Interested in making your own outreach videos? Lilian came across an easy-to-use app that can help you make simple and effective videos using images and sound.
– And Alexa suggested an easy outreach activity- convert your smartphone to a microscope and share the beauty of embryology!
Also on the Node:
– Our popular Woods Hole cover competition is back! Which image from last year’s course would you like to see in the cover of Development?
– Switzerland is not just about cheese and chocolate- Monika visited the Mosimann lab in Zurich to learn how to use the zebrafish tamoxifen-controlled Cre/lox system.
– Cat discussed her transition from academia to science communication, and why you shouldn’t feel guilty about the things that you do outside the lab.
– And watch this video to find out more about The Company of Biologists, the not-for-profit publisher behind the Node and Development.
Happy Reading!
